Implementation Scenarios

The diagram below illustrates a sample implementation scenario for the 3X RBA. By developing the technology from scratch, 3X Systems has integrated a diverse set of advanced backup features.

Architecture

The 3X Backup system has three major components: the appliance, client and locator service.

The Remote Backup Appliance (RBA): The 3X RBA is the cornerstone of the backup solution. This Linux-based system operates as the central store for backup data, runs the server side of our proprietary backup logic, and hosts the Remote Management Interface.

The Client: A client is installed on each system that needs to be backed up and includes three major components: the service (agent), tray icon, and a simplified client interface. The tray icon and client interface can be disabled for silent operation.

The Locator Service.  Hosted by 3X Systems, the complementary Locator Service eliminates many client configuration issues. When an appliance is attached to the internet, it registers its digital location with the locator service. If a client cannot find the appliance at its last known location, it queries the locator service and obtains the correct IP address and port of the appliance, whether the endpoint is on the local network with the appliance or somewhere on the Internet.

Thanks to the locator service, the RBA can be moved to another physical location without reconfiguring endpoints or stored on a home broadband connect that does not have a fixed IP address.

Designed to Operate Efficiently Over the Internet

3X Backup was designed from the ground up to operate over the internet, giving you the same benefits as an online vault provider in a box that's yours to buy and own.

Store the RBA in a Convenient Location. Thanks to the Locator Service and high efficiency data transmission, the RBA can be moved to any location with broadband, be it a remote office, the IT provider's office, or even the owner's home. Once the RBA is reconnected to the internet, clients will automatically resume backup services; no settings need changed.

Traveling Laptops. Laptops represent the most vulnerable data in today's companies. Not only are these computers at the highest risk of loss or theft, but they are often off-site during backup windows. With 3X Backup, laptops can be backed up across the internet, ensuring timely and thorough backup of critical business data.

Remote Offices. Remote Offices no longer need on-site IT staff to manage the backup process. Eliminating the manual process not only saves a company time and trouble, but eliminates the opportunity for human error.

Control Your Data. Whether you store the device yourself or entrust it to your IT provider, you can be confident that your data is safe and secure, under your control, and will be there when you need it.

Unlimited Client Licenses. By eliminating agent fees, the 3X RBA frees you to backup data directly from endpoints. You no longer have the headache of synchronizing data with your servers and clients can restore files directly to their desktops with a simple Client interface.

Proprietary DeDuplication Algorithm. In combination with the locator service, our proprietary deduplication algorithm allows the 3X Backup Solution to operate efficiently across the internet. Each time a scheduled backup completes, the system transmits changes at a block level to achieve a full, point-in-time snapshots of the backup set.

Remote, Centralized Management. Save time and money by managing and maintaining the backup solution from the comfort of your office. Add new users, change configurations, and recover files, all through a fully featured web-interface.

Fully Encrypted Communication. All communication across the internet leverages secure socket layer (SSL) connections.

HIPAA Compliant Encryption. All data stored on the appliance is protected with HIPAA Compliant AES encryption.

Miscellaneous Security. Other security approaches include digital access keys, hardware signatures, IP filtering, and levels of administrator authorization.
